Wilderness Presidential Resort, just 1.5 hours from DC and Maryland (and even closer for those in Northern Virginia!), is a year-round haven for families, couples, and solo adventurers alike. We stumbled upon this hidden gem and couldn’t believe we never knew it existed! The resort offers diverse activities and accommodations that promise an unforgettable experience without breaking the bank.

We did a little bit of everything during our stay, and each of us had our own highlight! For me, it was the incredible accommodations – the perfect blend of comfort and luxury. But my kids would disagree, they loved the wide range of activities and adventures that kept them engaged and excited throughout our stay!

Planning a Trip to Wilderness Presidential Resort

Wilderness Presidential Resort offers a range of activities suited to different seasons, making it a year-round destination. Enjoy water sports in spring and summer, and outdoor adventures with stunning fall foliage. Winter, although quieter, still provides opportunities for indoor activities like the escape room, indoor pool, Ice skating, and more.

While we were at the resort, we explored their scenic hiking trails, taking in the breathtaking views and enjoying quality time together. We also rented bikes for the kids at the resort’s rec center, which they loved riding around the grounds. And, of course, we spent hours at the beach area, enjoying the water activities and soaking up the sun. There’s truly so much to do at Wilderness Presidential Resort that we’re already planning our second trip to experience it all again!

Check-In Time and Process

Check-In Time: Guests can check into their accommodations at 4:00 PM. However, you can register earlier to receive wristbands and enjoy the resort’s amenities before your room is ready.

Express Check-In: If you have reserved your stay at least 72 hours in advance, you will receive instruction for express check-in via email.

Important Policies

Age Requirement: You must be at least 21 years old to reserve and check into log cabins at the resort. This age requirement also applies to reserving RV and tent sites.

Pet Policy: Wilderness Presidential Resort is pet-friendly in specific accommodations like Camp Cabins and Log Cabins. There is a limit of two dogs per reservation, each weighing no more than 70 lbs. A non-refundable pet fee is applicable, and certain restrictions apply, so it’s advisable to review the pet policy and complete any necessary forms before arrival.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations made within 2-3 days of check-in are charged for the first night, and same-day cancellations will incur charges for the total room rate.

The comfort stations are just a short walk away, making it easy to balance camping with comfort. Whether you prefer a cabin, RV, or tent site, the resort has something for everyone.

Cool Springs Lakeside Camp Cabins

We had a great experience at the Lakeside Camp Cabins. They offer two-bedroom options, fully equipped kitchens, and hot tubs – perfect for our family. Although the space was smaller than we’re used to, our kids loved it. It was an excellent fit for us.

The cabins are ideal for “glamping” and offer modern comforts like air conditioning, full kitchens, and TVs. Various layouts cater to couples and families. Some even have whirlpool tubs! We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it to others.

Presidential Log Cabins

Our preferred accommodation was the Presidential Log Cabins, which perfectly suited our family of five’s needs. The two-room cabin offered ample space for all of us. It feature two TVs, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and even a sofa bed for extra comfort. But what truly made our stay unforgettable were the stunning lake views from the cabin, providing a serene and peaceful atmosphere.

The cabins also have outdoor gas grills, which allow us to cook our meals without the hassle of starting a fire. This was a wonderful convenience, and we appreciated the flexibility it offered.

The Presidential Log Cabins genuinely offer the ultimate comfort and luxury, with features like:
