Visitors can take advantage of the park’s many amenities and attractions. A few of the attractions include a bathhouse, meeting area, snack bar, and camp store.
For those looking to stay overnight, the park offers a range of accommodation options. Visitors can reserve a campsite, bring a camping tent or book a cabins. The park’s attractions continue, however. Families can also enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, and boating.

Accessibility: Westmoreland State Park has various facilities that are accessible to visitors. The park office has reserved parking, a ramp entrance, and a restroom. Although motorized vehicles are not allowed on park trails, electric wheelchairs and scooters that meet the federal definition for wheelchairs are permitted on the trails.

The Fossil Beach

The Fossil Beach at Westmoreland State Park is a must-see, and the Big Meadow Trail is the most popular trail to access the beach area. The trail begins steps away from the visitor center, marked by a large kiosk and a prominent sign reading “Fossil Beach.”
So, don’t forget to bring a sieve or colander to sift through the sand and uncover ancient fossils like shark teeth. Also, it would be best to remember that fossil hunting requires patience and persistence, as it may take some time to uncover the perfect fossil specimen.

Camping at Westmoreland State Park
Are you planning a camping trip? Well, you’re lucky because you can go camping or glamping at Westmoreland State Park. Leave your camping tent at home and reserve a Cabin here if having a bathroom and a shower are a must for you. A two bedroom cabins are $112/ night for Virginia Residents and $133/night for non-residents. There a minimum of a two night stays requirement, so keep that in mind as you plan your trip. I have not personally stayed in the cabins, so I’ll not be able to comment on the experience and furniture.

The park has plenty of hiking trails for all skill levels. With seven trails, including self-guided interpretive paths, covering six miles, you can immerse yourself in the coastal plain and observe flora and fauna around you.

Kayaking: Kayaking is the perfect way to explore the park’s fascinating fossils and stunning natural beauty, with guided trips available from dawn to dusk. Kayaking activities are offers most Saturdays from Memorial day to Labor Day. Bring cash to pay your fee of $25 per tandem kayak, $20 per solo and $10 for those who bring their own kayak. Guest can call 804-493-8821 or make reservations at Westmoreland State Park Visitor Center.
