My kids can’t get enough of learning about planes and the history behind the museum. About College Park Aviation Museum

The museum is on the historic grounds of College Park Airport, which the Wright brothers co-founded in 1909. This airport holds a special place in aviation history, as it was here that Wilbur Wright trained the nation’s first military pilots in 1911. The Wright brothers’ presence at College Park Airport marked the beginning of a long and storied history.

Throughout its storied past, the airport has been a hub for groundbreaking flight experiments, innovative aircraft design, and pioneering achievements in aviation technology. During World War I, the airport served as a training base for military pilots, and its proximity to Washington, D.C., made it an ideal location for testing and developing new aircraft.

College Park Airport played an even more critical role in World War II, serving as a key base for military operations and aircraft production. The airport’s runway and facilities were used to test and deploy aircraft, and its location made it an essential stopover for planes ferrying troops and supplies.

Today, the museum is a testament to the airport’s rich history, showcasing a collection of historic aircraft, artifacts, and interactive exhibits that tell the story of College Park Airport’s.
